Socks and Sandals

There’s a lot to be said about Book Clubs, and while I feel like there’s going to be a place for one here in The Back Room sometime in the future, for now here’s a little virtual Book Club…because some books are a bit like socks and sandals.

Relationships, heartbreak & humour: If you loved ‘Normal People‘ by Sally Rooney then you will love ‘Ordinary People‘ by Diana Evans.

Gutsy feminists with an opinion: If you loved ‘Boys Will Be Boys‘ by Clementine Ford then you will love ‘Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race‘ by Reni Eddo-Lodge and ‘On Rape‘ by Germaine Greer.

Kids who love to say the word ‘fart’: If you loved the ‘Weirdo‘ series by Anh Do then you will love ‘Excuse Me‘ by Dave Hughes and Holly Ife.

A bit self helpy: If you loved ‘Chasing the Sun‘ by Linda Geddes then you will love ‘The Good Life‘ by Hugh Mackay.

Real people and real stories: If you loved ‘Any Ordinary Day‘ by Leigh Sales then you will love ‘Educated‘ by Tara Westover.

Mental health & wellbeing: If you loved ‘First We Make the Beast Beautiful‘ by Sarah Wilson then you will love ‘Slow‘ by Brooke McAlary.

Left of centre and heart warming: If you loved ‘Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine‘ by Gail Honeyman then you will love ‘The Rosie Project‘ by Graeme Simsion.

Australian and awesome: If you loved ‘The Restorer‘ by Michael Sala then you will love ‘Boy Swallows Universe‘ by Trent Dalton and ‘The Shepherd’s Hut‘ by Tim Winton.

A bit scary: If you loved ‘Green Light‘ by Benjamin Stephenson then you will love ‘The Dry‘ by Jane Harper.

Oh and I purposely haven’t linked to buy these books anywhere because I don’t want this to become a shopping newsletter. I have lots of these books, as does your local library, so borrowing might be the way of the future. Call me.
