Learn Reiki, with Kate Cummins

Today I want to tell you about a very special workshop that’s coming up in The Back Room on June 29 – the ultimate expression of care for yourself and others. It’s a one day Reiki Certification Level 1 course, run by Kate Cummins who is coming to us all the way from Tullamore (I know…see we have all the peeps right on our doorstep!)

Before I get into the course details, here’s a little bit about Kate:

Name: Katharine Jean Cummins
Nationality: American

How did an American end up in Tullamore? “Completely by chance…I had plans to back pack around Australia when I arrived in 2011, but my awesome (!) surfing skills ended with a broken arm and my plans changed. So while I loved Sydney, I needed a job and that’s how I found myself firstly working at the Narromine Hotel, and eventually Tullamore. I met Chris here and the rest is history!”

Your most favourite part of the day: “I teach ‘Pound’ classes (kind of like a cardio workout, with drums, to music) so I love the time that I spend between work and Pound to relax and recharge. It’s usually with my animals, or listening to an online summit, or napping – whatever it takes to tackle the rest of the day.”

How do you incorporate Reiki into your everyday life? “Reiki improves my patience, gives me more energy and it helps me deal with day to day situations – rather than being on an emotional roller coaster. I do my best to carve out a bit of time to practice each day.”

And now to the course Kate is offering:

“Reiki is love. Love is wholeness. Wholeness is balance. Balance is wellbeing. Wellbeing is freedom from disease.” Dr Mikao Usui.

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is an ancient Japanese technique used for reducing stress and to promote relaxation, while also offering healing. Join presenter Kate Cummins to realise your own raw possibilities, within a safe & supportive space, learning the tools to explore the method of Reiki.

Reiki is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If this energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being content and healthy.

Participants will leave with a greater understanding of Reiki & energy work and how they can use these skills to heal themselves and others in the world around them.

The day includes a mixture of hands on and more traditional learning activities. We’ll begin with energy exercises to help understand what exactly Reiki is and how it works. We’ll also spend some time on the history, guiding principles, and ethics of Reiki. After morning tea we’ll dive into learning Reiki hand positions and receiving our attunements. The focus for the rest of the day is practising treatments on ourselves and others, so by the end of the day everyone is confident enough to use Reiki in their daily life.

All food and refreshments are provided on the day – morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are included in the ticket price.
