Let’s Give ‘The Back Room Book Club’ A Crack

UPDATE: After a few chats around the place, it seems appropriate to make this Book Club more ‘in person’ than online.
Members will still correspond via email but then actually see each other in the flesh, once a month or so, to discuss the book.
I was even thinking that we could take Book Club on the road sometimes – Corinella School would be the perfect spot for a chat about a book. (As would Byron Bay!!)
I have pencilled in Thursday September 26 as our first catch up here in The Back Room.
Our first book to discuss is ‘The Yield’ by Tara June Winch.

Well the time is right to begin The Back Room Book Club…I can feel it in my waters. At this stage it’ll be of the virtual nature and we’ll look to set up some in real life events soon (small steps!)

In terms of how this book club will look, here are my ideas:
The purpose is to gather a community of book lovers to discuss and share their joy of reading.
We will read one book per month.
This group is for men, women and everyone on that spectrum.
There will be eight members in our Book Club (including me.)
Each member will pay a small membership fee of $8.00 per month.
At the end of each month, we will discuss the book in a couple of ways:
a) We send each other – via group email – our score out of 10, a word to describe the book and the most pressing question that it invokes in us.
AND
b) We have monthly video chats – where we all get online at the same time, where we can see & talk to each other on our screens, and share our thoughts on the book. We will use Zoom to do these meetings. It’s a really easy platform and you sign up (it’s free for you), I send you a meeting link to click on and tudaaar…we get to see and chat to each other in real time (in our pyjamas!)

So are you in?!

I’m going to toss up the first few books to get the ball rolling…

September: ‘The Yield’ by Tara June Winch
October: ‘Daisy and the Six’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid
November: TBA

If you would like to be a part of the inaugural Back Room Book Club, then please flick me an email cherie@thebackroomforbes.com and we can take it from there.
