Recommendations from a friend – the October version.

I want to share with you all the good stuff that I have been surrounding myself with at the moment. By no means an exhaustive list – but if it makes it this far, then it must be good!

Ear hole-ing:‘Believed’ Podcast
What’s so great about it? Well I bowled this whole series over in pretty much two sittings (it helped that I was on a particularly long drive!) I hadn’t heard much about the Larry Nassar story – and his disgusting abuse of girls during his role as the USA gymnastics team doctor. This story is horrifying and so difficult to hear. The fact that many of his victims were dismissed and not believed is my worst nightmare. If you, or anyone you know, has experienced sexual trauma, then this could be a key to unlocking a whole lot of questions.

Watching:The Politician’ on Netflix
What’s so great about it? Look, it’s a bit more ‘ludicrous’ than ‘great’ but I couldn’t look away. Totally out of my realm of reality – young rich upstarts in the US who look to lead via the traditional political movement from an early age. If that doesn’t sound that enticing, then maybe it’s the Gwyneth Paltrow and Martina Navratilova love fest that gets you over the line.

Tasting: Brown lentil, spinach and coconut hotpot.
What’s so great about it? Apart from the long winded and rather hippie sounding name, this is a delicious dish for these coolish nights in the Central West. It’s from Jasmine Hemsley’s book ‘East by West’ and I only got it this week but already I am devouring it.

Reading: ‘High Sobriety’ by Jill Stark
What’s so great about it? Jill is upfront about her alcohol use, and her decision to take a year off the booze back in 2013. She is very open about the connections between her anxiety and drinking. I can’t help but wonder if this is why I was such a train wreck on the grog in my 20’s and 30’s.

My recommendations continue after the image…

I found this great artist on Instagram and I can't find her name for the life of me. I'll get back to you when I do...

Learning: How to speak to a crowd.
What’s so great about it? Well it’s getting a message across. I have been inspired by the Mamamia Outloud team who I saw in Orange during the week – Jessie, Holly and Mia were funny, wise and in sync with each other. I think it’s so cool to see how different people get their tribe together.

Googling: How far apart to plant saltbush.
What’s so great about it? Google had a bit of trouble with this request – I was only planting a hedge, not a paddock full. In the end I just guessed (see, Google doesn’t know everything!)
